About 24 hours ago Jody Hill was sitting about 2 chairs away from us at a SXSW screening. We didn’t wanna bug him, but apparently we should have. Today, the “Observe & Report” director told Vulture he thought a similar mall-cop movie, “Paul Blart,” was a crap.
“It’s annoying that every time I read an article, they mention this piece-of-shit movie,” he said. “I don’t want a battle of the mall cops. If somebody’s doing something, I don’t want to do that.”
The film debuted last night at the SXSW Film Festival and apparently Variety loved it and called it a “shockingly and sometimes discomfortingly funny comedy.” Damn, now we’re doubly bummed we missed it. Hopefully one of our friends caught it. THR‘s report was a bit cooler and they warned that “Seth Rogen tests the limits of his lovable-lug persona,” and the “result gets plenty of laughs but will leave an odd aftertaste that could make ‘Observe’ less successful than Rogen’s less ambiguous outings.”
“Observe & Report” which stars Seth Rogen, Anna Faris and Ray Liotta hits regular theaters on April 10. [Vulture]
