“Hey son,” do you have a dollar to spare?” That’s not the dire situation for “Watchmen” writer David Hayter yet or ever, but he’s curiously urging the nerdherd to vote with their dollars once again this weekend. He knows the beancounters at Warner Bros. are watching closely and he’s hoping to juke the stats a little by begging asking fans to pay for it again.
“You have to understand, everyone is watching to see how the film will do in its second week. If you care about movies that have a brain, or balls, (and this film’s got both, literally), or true adaptations — And if you’re thinking of seeing it again anyway, please go back this weekend, Friday or Saturday night. Demonstrate the power of the fans, because it’ll help let the people who pay for these movies know what we’d like to see. Because if it drops off the radar after the first weekend, they will never allow a film like this to be made again.”

Speaking of Watchmen. Patton Oswalt, who we like, makes an unintelligible, rambling non-argument for why “Watchmen” is awesome and those who deign to make one criticism should kindly shut up. It basically amounts to, “it’s good because they filmed it.” Congratulations, Patton. Even more hilarious if it’s true. InContention says Oswalt has not even seen the film yet. Uhhh…
We wish we had time to do this. A very admirable list of 15 films playing at SXSW that you need to see. They highlight, “Anvil! The Story of Anvil,” “Sin Nombre,” “The Hurt Locker,” a bunch of mumblecore films that’ll we’ll remain skeptical about until proven otherwise, “Moon,” and a film that everyone seems to be talking about that we honestly know little about called, “Best Worst Movie.” Reminder to selves: investigate further.
