While "Suburbicon" has been knocking around for years, what hasn’t been known are the plot details to the Coen Brothers penned script. But with a lead cast of Matt Damon, Julianne Moore, and Josh Brolin now in place, and George Clooney set to direct, financing is coming together, and with it plot details to boot.
Previously described as a ’50s set thriller in the vein of "Blood Simple," The Wrap reveals the story is about a home invasion that finds a family engaging in blackmail, revenge and betrayal, in what is described as a story where "the best and worst of humanity is hilariously reflected through the deeds of seemingly ordinary people." The title also refers to the small town in which it is set, so presumably it sounds like a pretty high concept satire of sorts. Or at least a dark comedy, which sounds about right.
It seems like a specific tone to nail, but also one you’d fully expect from the Coens, and this cast is a promising one to pull it off. Production will begin later this year.
