Jason Sudeikis To Lead 'Fletch' Reboot, Ed Helms Has An 'Epic Fail' & More

Jason Sudeikis Fletch

It’s been a long time coming — his latest attempt began in 2011 —l but the “Fletch” remake is finally coming down the pipeline. THR is reporting that fellow “SNL” alum Jason Sudeikis is in talks to fill Chevy Chase’s shoes as the titular character in “Fletch Won” with the film, of course, being an eyed as “an origin story, described as a gritty action comedy with heart and more tonally in line with [the original Gregory] McDonald novels than the Chase movies.” So yes, Warner Bros. is hoping for a franchise but they’ll still need to find a director to give them that desired “‘Beverly Hills Cop’ or ‘Midnight Run’ vibe.” Maybe once Sudeikis signs on the dotted line.

With “The Hangover” franchise over (for now) and “The Office” behind him, Ed Helms has plenty of time to himself which he’s using —per ComingSoon —to bring his and co-developer Nicky Weinstock’s idea to fruition. Lionsgate is putting their weight behind Helms for the Helms-starring comedy “Epic Fail” (yes, really) that sees “an elite but highly unorthodox special forces team take their dysfunction and excessive firepower on a desperate mission to save America, led by the only soldier more badass and more mustachioed than a Navy SEAL, The Walrus.” Mike Arnold and Chris Poole, the screenwriting duo behind the Black List approved “The Grackle,” have been tapped to pen the comedy.

If you need further proof of the success of “True Detective,” look no further than Erin Moriarty —l aka Martin Hart’s daughter. Variety reports that the actress has nabbed the lead in New Line’s latest horror outing, “Crawlspace.” The film will focus on “a relocated family who moves into a new home where the previous inhabitants were mysteriously killed.” Cue spooky music.

Finally, Deadline reports Jon Favreau will once again reunite with his bro-for-life Vince Vaughn on-screen for the Peter Billingsley-helmed “Term Life.” In case you forgot, this is the crime thriller that finds Vaughn as a crooked criminal on the lam with his daughter (Hailee Steinfeld) from mob bosses, dirty cops and the like. There’s no word on what Favreau’s role will be but we’re betting the film will find Favreau as something close to comic relief. Shooting began earlier this month on the Universal film.
