‘Anaconda’: Daniela Melchior To Star In Tom Gormican’s Remake

In a world filled with unnecessary sequels, prequels, and remakes, perhaps the one that seems most superfluous is the upcoming reimagining of “Anaconda.” Do we need this in our lives? Definitely not. But with the cast and crew involved, perhaps it’ll be something worthwhile?

According to Deadline, Daniela Melchior has joined Paul Rudd and Jack Black in the upcoming reimagining of “Anaconda.” No word on what her role might be, but the report claims the new film isn’t so much of a remake and more of a reimagining that leans towards comedy. That much seems obvious when you have folks like Rudd and Black in the cast. The film is directed by Tom Gormican, who is probably best known for his work on the recent film, “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.”

Melchior has been in a number of big projects in recent years. She starred in James Gunn’sThe Suicide Squad,” and she’s shown up in a cameo role in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.” Her biggest role to date is in the “Road House” remake, where she played Jake Gyllenhaal’s love interest.

Again, it’s unclear what the story for his version of “Anaconda” might be. The original film came out in 1997 and stars Ice Cube, Jennifer Lopez, and Jon Voight. The film told the story of a documentary crew being led by a snake expert into the treacherous Amazon on the hunt for the green anaconda. It’s trying to be scary, but it’s really just silly.

It’s unclear when we might see production begin on “Anaconda.” But with the film casting right now, you have to assume it’ll begin soon enough.
