DreamWorks Animation Gets Moving On 'The Croods' Sequel

nullIt seems that as soon as any studio film hits theatres, a sequel is already in the works, especially with children’s films. So color us surprised that it’s taken nearly a month for DreamWorks to get the ball rolling on a return to the world of “The Croods.”

THR is reporting that DreamWorks Animation has greenlit a sequel to the Kirk De Micco and Chris Sanders helmed animated film. It seems like a no-brainer, the film has racked up over $242 million internationally and it saw some critical acclaim — though we weren’t fans. De Micco and Sanders are in talks to return, as well as the voice cast that includes Emma Stone, Nicolas Cage and Ryan Reynolds. It’s not really obvious where the filmmakers could go with the sequel as it suffers from the same problem as the “Ice Age” films have conceptually: it deals with species that eventually depart our mortal realm. Though it’s not like the original film shied away from combining fantasy with prehistory.

At any rate, “Croods 2” will most assuredly be hurtling towards you in 3D sometime in the future.
