‘A Quiet Place: Day One’ Trailer: Lupita N’yongo Stars In Michael Sarnoski’s New Alien Invasion Spin-Off

John Krasinski pulled off quite the feat with 2018’s “A Quiet Place” alien invasion horror movie. Not only did the actor and leading man introduce a viable new Hollywood franchise, but he also launched himself into the stratosphere of new filmmakers that could make suspenseful and emotional dramas that thrilled audiences, put asses in seats, and pleased critics and moviegoers alike.

Featuring himself, Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe, the original film focused on the journey of one family living on an isolated country farm, raising questions about other people’s experiences dealing with the aliens. The world’s vastness and possibilities were well-evinced in “A Quiet Place Part II” in 2020, and the promise of greater development is finally about to take root. The third film in the franchise, “A Quiet Place: Day One,” is not a direct sequel; instead, it is an expansion of the ‘AQP’ universe, which is locked and loaded and coming later this summer.

Taking over directing duties on the ‘AQP’ films from Krasinski is filmmaker Michael Sarnoski, known for helping Nicolas Cage revitalize his career with the understated drama “Pig.” Sarnoski also wrote the script, and while plot details have mostly been under wraps, the new trailer for the spin-off sheds more light on the story.

This version features an all-new cast. Lupita Nyong’o stars alongside Joseph Quinn (“Stranger Things”) and Alex Wolff (“Hereditary”). However, there is one connection to the existing ‘AQP’ franchise: Djimon Hounsou reprises his role from the last act of “Part II,” where he starred alongside Cillian Murphy.

“This notion of a quiet New York is one that will arrest many,” Nyong’o told EW about the different, much noisier setting this week. “It’s an impossible thing to imagine…. When you live there, you block out all the sounds quite naturally. You just forget to hear the sound. I realized how hard it would be to survive in a world that required you to be silent in that particular city.”

“A Quiet Place: Day One” will be released in theaters on June 28, 2024, via Paramount. Watch the new trailer below.
