Got a Tip?

A Throughly Dull Teaser Poster For ‘The Avengers’ Is Assembled

This weekend the thoroughly serviceable, enjoyable though not quite remarkable “Captain America: The First Avenger” will hit theaters and as usual Marvel will be promoting the next movie in the comic universe with a post-credits scene. But unlike previous films where Samuel L. Jackson or Clark Gregg show up for two seconds broadly winking at the audience, fans are in for a real treat this weekend as a teaser trailer for “The Avengers” will be unveiled and for those of you who managed a peek at the leaked footage, which features pretty much every member of the superhero team, it’s a pretty nifty little spot.

But alas, the footage is not online just yet so instead we’ll have to settle for the first one sheet and it’s boring. It’s a giant Avengers letter A with a no-brainer “Assemble 2012” tagline. Yawn. Granted, we can’t say we’re too surprised as in general, the one sheets for Marvel movies have been pretty bad all around, ranging from Photoshop disasters like this one for “Iron Man 2” or multiple big head montages like the one-sheet for “Thor.” It’s actually mostly amazing they didn’t go down the same route with this one slapping the mugs of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo on here, though there will be plenty of time for the graphic design team to take care of that in the months to come.

As Marvel is mostly staying away from San Diego this year, this is all fans will get for now. Check out the poster in full below — or go to the newly launched website for the same experience — and if you go see ‘Captain America’ this weekend, stay in your seat because that post-credits tease is actually worth sticking around for. The Joss Whedon directed mega-superhero flick will arrive on May 4, 2012. [HitFix]
