Abbot Elementary Leads 2022 TCA Awards Nominations

With Emmy nomination voting beginning today, the Television Critics Association revealed the nominees for the 2022 TCA Awards. In something of a surprise, Quinta Brunson’s “Abbott Elementary” leads all programs with five nominations. It was followed by “Better Call Saul,” “Severance,” and “Yellowjackets,” which earned four nods each.

“Abbott” not only earned a Program of the Year nomination but two Individual Achievements in Comedy (Brunson, Janelle James), Outstanding New Program, and Outstanding Achievement in Comedy.

In the aforementioned “Program of the Year” category, ‘Better Call,’ ‘Abbott,’ “Severance” and “Yellowjackets” were joined by “Hacks,” “Squid Game,” “Reservation Dogs” and “The White Lotus.” The latter HBO mini-series did not make the cut in its primary category but did land a New Program category nomination.

HBO and HBO Max led all companies with 21 nominations. Netflix earned 13 while Apple TV+ took 12. Hulu earned nine nods and Showtime took six. After earning five last year, Disney+ only took home one nod this time around.

The long list of snubbed programs included “Euphoria,” “Loki,” “Gaslit,” “Inventing Anna,” “Ozark,” “Atlanta,” “What We Do in the Shadows,” “Russian Doll,” “The Great,” “Pen15,” “Our Flag Means Death,” “Yellowstone,” “Stranger Things” and “Pam & Tommy,” among others.
