Abigail Spencer To Lead Joss Whedon-Scripted Supernatural Romancer 'In Your Eyes'

nullAfter a brief but memorable stint on AMC's critical darling "Mad Men," as a young teacher of Don Draper's daughter who develops a relationship with him, Abigail Spencer has diligently been putting her name out there; she had a supporting role in last summer's "Cowboys & Aliens" and appears in the upcoming "This Means War," "Oz, The Great And Powerful" and "Of Men And Mavericks." It was only a matter of time before she got a chance to prove herself in a leading role, and now she will, as THR reports that the actress will topline the Joss Whedon-scripted, Brin Hill-helmed supernatural-romance "In Your Eyes."

In typical Whedon fashion, details of the project are being kept under wraps, though it has been noted to be a low-budget film centering on two people "preternaturally or supernaturally connected, despite being polar opposites"' — whatever that means. As well as scripting, Whedon is also producing the film with Kai Cole through Bellwether Pictures, a shingle the duo created in order to produce smaller-budget movies with the film hoping to follow the footsteps of Whedon's Shakespeare adaptation "Much Ado About Nothing," which shot in 12 days.

Hopefully, the project has a little more theatrical luck than the last Whedon written and produced project, Drew Goddard's "Cabin In The Woods," which has spent an eternity on the sidelines before recently being announced as the opening film at this year's SXSW. Cult favourite Whedon also unleashes his superhero-epic "The Avengers" this spring, with the 3D movie hitting theaters on May 4th.
