We are beginning to see more and more actresses make the leap into feature directing. Perhaps most notably, at the moment, is Olivia Wilde, who has gone from being a well-known actress to helming one of the most anticipated films of the fall, “Don’t Worry, Darling.” Now, Sarah Gadon is hoping to make the same leap.

According to Brightlight Pictures, actress Sarah Gadon is set to make her feature-directing debut with the upcoming film, “Lullabies for Little Criminals.” She’ll write the script, as well, which is based on the novel of the same name by author Heather O’Neill.
Here’s the synopsis for the film:
At thirteen, Baby vacillates between childhood comforts and adult temptation, with a genius for spinning stories and cherishing the small crumbs of happiness that fall into her lap. Her father, Jules, takes better care of his drug habit than he does of his daughter, however when her blossoming beauty captures the attention of a charismatic and dangerous local – it creates a volatile situation which threatens to crush Baby’s spirit.
As mentioned, Gadon is best known for her acting career. She starred in the series “Alias Grace,” as well as having roles in films such as “Maps To The Stars,” “Cosmopolis,” “A Dangerous Method,” and “Enemy.” Most recently, she stars in the new drama, “North of Normal,” which just debuted at TIFF. According to IMDB, her only directing gig was with one episode of a docuseries, titled “Reelside,” back in 2015.
It’s unclear when production might begin on “Lullabies for Little Criminals,” but we’ll definitely keep an eye out for more news about Gadon’s move into filmmaking.
