Adam Driver & Rooney Mara Confirmed For Leos Carax’s ‘Annette,’ Rihanna Rumored For Role

Yesterday, we saw the early puzzle pieces of Leos Carax‘s new film “Annette” coming together, and just hours later, official word started coming through the trades. And if you were already excited by the mere return of the “Holy Motors” director, get ready because the project has lined up some big stars, and sounds pretty damn awesome.

First linked at the end of last year, Adam Driver and Rooney Mara are confirmed to star in the movie, and even more, Rihanna is rumored to have small part too. Slated to shoot in locations around the world starting next spring, the music-driven film is being described as “the rise and fall of an intense love story,” though an early logline reveals the drama revolves around a stand-up comedian who loses his opera singer wife, and discovers their 2 year-old daughter has an extraordinary gift. But in the hands of Carax, that could really be conjured into anything.

For an arthouse project, this has a surprisingly big $15.5 million budget, and an extensive schedule, with filming to take place across fifteen weeks. But Carax getting a huge canvas to play on is a really promising prospect. But it also means we’re likely going to have to wait a bit for the result, as I don’t see “Annette” hitting cinemas until 2018 at the earliest. [Variety]
