Adam Sandler Says His Josh Safdie Baseball Film Is "Hopefully Going To Come Back"

You may remember that last year, there was a lot of buzz surrounding the new Josh Safdie film that was going to star Adam Sandler. However, just when production was supposed to begin, the strikes happened. And unfortunately, a big part of the film, which was to take place at live baseball games, couldn’t be filmed when the strike ended, effectively shelving the project. However, it sounds as if Safdie and Sandler are hoping to get it going again.

Speaking to IndieWire, while promoting his new stand up special directed by Josh Safdie, Adam Sandler offered an update on the unmade project. Apparently, it’s something that could still happen. Maybe.

“It’s something that we talked about today,” Sandler said about the untitled film. “It’s hopefully going to come back. It’s crazy, it’s a cool script, very long. Josh doesn’t stop working hard.”

As mentioned, not much was really known about the film that involved live baseball games. We did know that Sandler was expected to star opposite rapper Megan Thee Stallion. But that’s really it.

As for the other Safdie brother, Benny, Sandler is still working with him on projects, including the upcoming “Happy Gilmore 2.”

“And by the way, Benny [Safdie] is in ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ and he’s going to have a juicy part in that,” said Sandler. “So it’s fun to be [back] with these guys.”

Unlike his brother Josh, Benny Safdie has already moved ahead with his first solo directing project, the upcoming film, “The Smashing Machine,” which stars Dwayne Johnson. That film has already finished filming and is likely going to arrive in 2025.

Adam Sandler’s new comedy special, “Love You,” arrives on Netflix on August 27.
