'After The Hunt': Ayo Edebiri Joins Julia Roberts & Andrew Garfield In Luca Guadagnino's Upcoming Drama

How high will Ayo Edebiri‘s Hollywood star soar? After her latest casting, it may be higher than anyone predicted. Deadline reports that Edebiri joins Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield in Luca Guadagnino‘s next film for Amazon MGM Studios, “After The Hunt.”  And after the success of “Challengers” and his other 2024 feature, “Queer,” ready for a festival premiere later this year, is there a flashier director to work with right now than Guada?

It’s unclear who Edebiri plays in “After The Hunt,” but it’s bound to be compelling thanks to the set-up of Nora Garrett‘s script. The upcoming drama centers on a college professor at a crossroads after a star student makes an accusation against a colleague, threatening to unveil a dark secret from her past. Roberts will play the professor in the upcoming film, but Garfield and Edebiri’s roles remain unknown.  Maybe Edebiri plays the pupil and Garfield is Roberts’ colleague?  Guada fans will get answers soon, as “After The Hunt” starts shooting this summer.

What else is out there about “After The Hunt” right now? Amazon MGM plans to have the film in theaters sometime next year, continuing their sterling relationship with the Italian director.  Guada’s latest is a co-production between Amazon MGM and Imagine Entertainment.  Brian Grazer and Allan Mandelbaum co-produce through Imagine, with Guada doing so through his Frenesy banner.  Imagine’s Karen Lunder also serves as executive producer on the project alongside Garrett. Also of note: “After The Hunt” will hit production before another upcoming Guada project “Separate Rooms,” which sees the director reunite with “Challengers” star Josh O’ConnorLéa Seydoux also stars in that one.

“After The Hunt” is yet another buzzy project on Edebiri’s busy slate. One of the industry’s biggest recent breakouts, Edebiri sees two much-anticipated projects premiere next month: Season 3 of FX‘s “The Bear,” which debuts on June 27, and “Inside Out 2,” which hit theaters on June 14. Other upcoming projects for the Emmy and Golden Globe-winner include the sci-fi drama “Omni Loop,” the A24 horror film “Opus,” and James L. Brooks‘ ucpoming comedy “Ella McKay.”

And could it get any better for Guadagnino fans right now?  “Challengers” already won audience’s heart this year, but with “Queer” on the way, and “After The Hunt” and possibly “Separate Rooms” next year, that’s four Guada movies in two years.  It’s unlikely all four get premieres by the time 2025 comes to a close, but what a blast it would be if it happens, right?
