This year has been a bit of a mixed bag for actress Keira Knightley. Earlier in the year, the actress was wowing audiences in the film “Colette,” with some wondering if some awards love was in her future. However, her most recent film, “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” serves as a rare Disney misfire, leaving a bad taste in film fans’ mouths. Even though it appears Knightley won’t have another chance in 2018 to cleanse her name, 2019 offers up “The Aftermath,” which looks to be yet another strong project for the actress.
In the new trailer for “The Aftermath,” we are introduced to Knightley’s character Rachael Morgan, as she joins her husband in post-World War II Germany. As Rachael’s husband is rebuilding Hamburg as part of the British military, she’s slowly drawing closer and closer to a mysterious German widower that lives in the same house as the couple.
Joining Knightley in the cast of “The Aftermath” are Jason Clarke and Alexander Skarsgård. The film is directed by James Kent, who is best known for his work on “Poirot,” “Testament of Youth,” and the series “11.22.63.” Ridley Scott is also on board as executive producer.
“The Aftermath” hits theaters on April 26, 2019.
Here’s the synopsis:
THE AFTERMATH is set in post-war Germany in 1946. Rachael Morgan (Keira Knightley) arrives in the ruins of Hamburg in the bitter winter, to be reunited with her husband Lewis (Jason Clarke), a British colonel charged with rebuilding the shattered city. But as they set off for their new home, Rachael is stunned to discover that Lewis has made an unexpected decision. They will be sharing the grand house with its previous owners, a German widower (Alexander Skarsgård) and his troubled daughter. In this charged atmosphere, enmity and grief give way to passion and betrayal.
