To say that the COVID pandemic threw a wrench in the plans of filmmakers all around Hollywood is a vast understatement. Film productions were halted, schedules were postponed, and release dates were more like release suggestions as studios still try to figure out how to distribute a movie in a profitable way. And one of the many, many productions to get hit by the pandemic is “Hypnotic” from Robert Rodriguez. But more than a year after it was set to begin filming, it appears the thriller starring Ben Affleck is back on track, adding a new member to the cast and figuring out a filming date and location.

According to Deadline, Robert Rodriguez has brought in Alice Braga to star opposite Ben Affleck in the upcoming film, “Hypnotic.” The new thriller tells the story of a detective that is knee-deep in a big mystery that might involve his missing daughter and a secret government program as he investigates a series of high-profile crimes. “Hypnotic” was originally expected to begin principal photography back in April 2020, but the pandemic had other ideas. Now, the feature won’t begin filming in Austin until September.
Braga is probably best known for her roles in “City of God,” “Elysium,” “I Am Legend,” and recently in “New Mutants.” She is also set to appear in the upcoming superhero film, “The Suicide Squad.” Over on TV, Braga recently appeared in “We Are Who We Are” and is the star of “Queen of the South.”
“Hypnotic” is written by Rodriguez alongside Max Borenstein. And as you might suspect, Rodriguez is once again directing this feature. A release date for “Hypnotic” has yet to be announced, but if filming does begin in September, a late-2022 debut is most likely.
