Matthew Vaughn’s “X-Men: First Class” has found its Emma Frost, but it won’t be Rosamund Pike as previously rumored.
While it seems clear that Pike did test or audition for the role, Deadline is reporting that British actress Alice Eve (“She’s Out of My League”) is in negotiations to take the role.
Perhaps a little fitting since Eve almost scored the main female lead in “Captain America: The First Avenger” earlier this year, but the role went to Hayley Atwell instead (and Eve was once considered the frontrunner). Clearly her agents are pursuing these kinds of high profile gigs (and after her bodacious turn in “Sex And The City 2,” you can maybe understand why; she may turn star on looks and physique alone).
And to tie it all back to “Captain America” starring Chris Evans, Deadline is also reporting that Tommy Lee Jones is confirmed for a role, though Hayley Atwell seemingly confirmed that herself a long time ago. EW has the details, he’s apparently playing Colonel Phillips the man who recruits Steve Rogers (Captain America) to join Project Rebirth — the experimental project that leads to the creation of the Super Soldier.
“X-Men: First Class” is set to shoot in July in the U.K. so full casting announcements should be arriving soon. Michael Fassbender will play Magneto, James MacAvoy will play Professor X and Ben Walker seems to be locked into the role of the Beast. Aaron Johnson, who appeared in Vaughn’s “Kick-Ass” earlier this year, seems to be an early frontrunner for Cyclops.
That leaves Angel, Iceman, Jean Grey, Moira MacTaggert, Mystique and probably several other villains from the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants (Amber Heard is rumored to play the aforementioned shape-shifter). Our suggestions? Andrew Garfield (“The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus”) for Angel and Imogen Poots (“Cracks,” “Solitary Man”) for Jean Grey.
