Alicia Vikander To Star In Terence Winter's 'Dial M For Murder' Anthology Series

Normally, we’d look at a remake of “Dial M For Murder” and ask, “Why?” The original play and subsequent film directed by Alfred Hitchcock are classics. So, why mess with a good thing? Well, when you have talent like Terence Winter and Alicia Vikander on board, that makes the justification a bit easier to understand.

According to THR, Winter is set to develop and produce a new anthology series, “Dial M for Murder,” based on Frederick Knott’s play and the 1954 film of the same name. The play and the film tell the story of a man that is looking to hire a killer after learning of his wife’s infidelity. However, the new series will be an anthology, with the first season starring Alicia Vikander and tells the story from the female perspective.

As mentioned, “Dial M for Murder” is being developed by Winter, who previously worked on series such as “The Sopranos,” “Vinyl,” and “Boardwalk Empire,” the latter of which he created. The “Dial M for Murder” remake series is created by Michael Mitnick, who previously worked with Winter on the aforementioned “Vinyl.” The series is being produced by MGM/UA Television.

Vikander is the Oscar-winning actress who is known for her roles in features such as “Ex Machina,” “The Danish Girl,” and “Tomb Raider.” Most recently, she appeared in features such as “Earthquake Bird” and “The Glorias.” She’ll next be seen in the upcoming A24 fantasy thriller, “The Green Knight.”

It’s unclear when production might begin on “Dial M for Murder” or where we might see the series land. However, this does have streaming series written all over it, so we wouldn’t be shocked to hear that Netflix, Amazon, Apple, or Hulu steps up to take distribution of the show. We’ll have to wait and see.
