Though Warner Bros. doesn’t seem to have any interest in ever releasing “Coyote vs. Acme” or “Batgirl,” the studio is still in the business of making blockbuster films with the intention of kickstarting new franchises. One of the upcoming attempts is “Alien Legion,” and the studio has a filmmaker attached to help make it a reality.
According to THR, Warner Bros. has set Tim Miller as the filmmaker for “Alien Legion,” an upcoming sci-fi, space opera film based on the long-running comic book series. “Alien Legion” is a bit of a middle ground between the philosophical, traditional sci-fi of “Star Trek” and the more fantastical “Star Wars.” The comic tells the story of a peace-keeping force in space, comprised of various aliens throughout the universe. They’re part of the Galactic Union, a democratic melting pot with myriad political problems.
Miller is probably best known as the filmmaker behind the first “Deadpool” film. Since then, he’s directed 2019’s “Terminator: Dark Fate” and is one of the masterminds behind the sci-fi anthology series, “Love, Death + Robots.” He’s clearly a filmmaker who has a ton of creativity, especially in the realm of sci-fi. So, it’ll be interesting to see how he tackles something like “Alien Legion.”
Obviously, it’s still unclear when we might see “Alien Legion” arrive in theaters. Currently, Miller is prepping to begin production on the fantasy film, “Best Served Cold,” which has Rebecca Ferguson attached to star. So, it’ll still be quite a while before Miller has time to devote to “Alien Legion.”
