“Alpha Gang” Set for Cannes Market Starring Andrea Riseborough, Jon Hamm, Nicholas Hoult, and Steven Yeun

Following their relative critical success with “Damsel,” the screenwriting-directing duo of brothers David and Nathan Zellner have set their sights on a new project with a cast full of familiar names. The Zellners will be directing and producing “Alpha Gang” after David Zellner wrote the script for the upcoming sci-fi comedy, slated to begin filming in 2021.

“Alpha Gang” follows a group of aliens who develop emotions while attempting to conquer Earth. The aliens look and sound like humans, and the Zellners have some big names playing these warm bodies, including Jon Hamm (“Mad Men”), Nicholas Hoult (“The Great”), Steven Yeun (“Burning”), and Andrea Riseborough (“Mandy”).

With Protagonist Picture handling international sales and CAA Media looking towards North American sales, “Alpha Gang” heads to the Cannes market next week, in hopes of getting bought at the virtual event.

Due to the current status of the industry and the world at-large because of economic recessions and shutdowns of films sets around the world, “Alpha Gang” will likely lean on the talent of its cast at the Cannes market. With big names in both TV and film like Hamm, Hoult, Yeun, and Riseborough in leading and supporting roles, the sci-fi flick’s weird-enough premise could boost its chances.

Joining those four actors will be Charlotte Gainsbourg (“Melancholia”), Mackenzie Davis (“Terminator: Dark Fate”) and Sofia Boutella (“Star Trek Beyond”). With Adele Romanski and Sara Murphy producing, both working on “Never Rarely Sometimes Always” and “If Beale Street Could Talk,” David and Nathan Zellner’s “Alpha Gang” will begin shooting in 2021.
