Amanda Seyfried will lead Catherine Hardwicke’s “The Girl With The Red Riding Hood,” after previously being hotly tipped as the front-runner.
The actress confimed the casting on the Oscar red carpet and will play the titular character in the film. The “Twilight”-esque project was previously noted to focus on the dark, dangerous and romantic elements of the classic fairy tale and is described by Hardwicke as centering on a “village plagued by this wolf”
“It’s wild with all these different secrets and lies, and a murder mystery,” Hardwicke adds of the David Leslie Johnson scribed story. “It’s super-sexy. We’re on track [to get the greenlight], and it looks pretty positive.”
The film will continues the steady rise of Seyfried who has slowly built her reputation as a leading lady. Her most recent turn in “Dear John” possibly got her over the line after its excellent box office performance. Hardwicke, meanwhile, was recently attached to sci-fi action/adventure pic “Dot War” and also has a number of other projects on the backburner including “If I Stay,” a supernatural drama with Dakota Fanning attached and, unfortunately looking less and less likely, a musical version of “Haml3t” starring Emile Hirsch.
