Ami Canaan Mann's 'The Fields' Adds Jessica Chastain, Chloe Moretz Also Joining?

Jessica Chastain has joined the cast of Ami Canaan Mann’s “The Fields” with young starlet Chloe Moretz also linked to a role in the Texas-set crime thriller starring Sam Worthington and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Chastain will play the ex-wife of Worthington’s protagonist who is also a homicide detective determined to the find the killers, with or without his help. The role is a culmination of a steady rise for the actress who, by all reports, has a breakthrough performance in Terrence Malick’s “The Tree Of Life” as Brad Pitt’s wife later this year and is currently filming Ralph Fiennes’ contemporary adaptation of William Shakespeare’s “Coriolanus.”

Moretz’s potential casting meanwhile is a bit more dubious with news coming only from a suspiciously unofficial-looking “official source” for the actress and reiterated on an unverified “official Chloe Moretz Twitter.” The twitter has featured images and back-and-forth tweeting with Moretz’s “Kick-Ass” co-star Christopher Mintz-Plasse though so there’s reason to believe it really is her.

With production on both “The Fields” and Martin Scorsese’s “The Invention Of Hugo Cabret” — whose cast Moretz recently joined — set to begin this May though, can Moretz actually fit both in her schedule?

Shooting on “The Fields” was just revealed to begin on May 3rd in New Orleans for seven weeks which would rule out any work for Moretz on the Scorsese pic in the month of May. Could production on Scorsese’s ‘Hugo Cabret’ have been pushed back? Recent casting announcements have neglected to mention the original planned May start.

Either way, having already shown her ability to light up the screen amongst a much-older cast in “500 Days Of Summer,” Moretz’s casting would be a welcome addition for “The Fields.” The film will be Mann’s sophomore directorial effort and follows a tough-minded misanthropic Texan (Worthington) and his partner Brian (Dean Morgan) who wind up waging something of a war against unknown assailants responsible for two decades of disappearances and homicides. What transpires is a ferocious battle to save each other and the life of a young street kid named Little Anne, which we suspect is Moretz’s potential role.

The actress will next be seen in her well-received role as Hit-Girl in Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming “Kick-Ass,” has Matt Reeves’ remake of “Let The Right One In” where she’ll star alongside Kodi Smit-McPhee coming out later this year and is attached to Seth Gordon’s Blacklisted “Mixtape.”
