David O. Russell is no stranger to massive, A-list ensemble casts. But would you believe it that he might have outdone himself for his new film, “Amsterdam?”
As seen in the trailer for “Amsterdam,” Russell’s latest tells the story of two soldiers and a nurse who grow to become good friends and colleagues as they find themselves accused of murder. Little do they know, this leads to a much bigger conspiracy, as they uncover who is really behind the death.
The film stars Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, John David Washington, Alessandro Nivola, Andrea Riseborough, Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Rock, Matthias Schoenaerts, Michael Shannon, Mike Myers, Taylor Swift, Zoe Saldaña, Rami Malek, and Robert De Niro. That’s one of the best casts you’re bound to see all year long in one film.
Russell is probably best known for his films “The Fighter,” “Silver Linings Playbook,” “American Hustle,” and “Joy.” Those films were all released over a six-year period beginning in 2010. However, since “Joy” arrived in 2015, Russell has yet to release a new film, marking the biggest gap in his career. This only adds to the anticipation.
Here’s the synopsis:
