Last month, news broke that Yorgos Lanthimos already has his next movie after “Poor Things” lined up with “And.” And several “Poor Things” cast members return for the newly announced film, including Emma Stone, Margaret Qualley, and Willem Dafoe, with Lanthimos newcomer Jesse Plemons also on board. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, another actor from Lanthimos’ backlog returns for “And” too: Joe Alwyn, who starred in the director’s 2018 film “The Favourite.”
“And” heads into production in New Orleans later this month, but its plot remains a mystery. Lanthimos co-writes the film with Efthymis Filippou, as he did on “The Killing Of A Sacred Deer,” “The Lobster,” “Alps,” and “Dogtooth.” The film marks the third collaboration between Lanthimos with Element Pictures, Searchlight, and Film 4 after “The Favourite” and “Poor Things.”
Searchlight Pictures presidents Matthew Greenfield and David Greenbaum broke the news about Alwyn’s casting in a press statement. “We are so excited to be collaborating with Joe once again after our extraordinary journey together on “The Favourite,”” they said. “He is a brilliant actor and a welcome addition to the all-star cast Yorgos has put together here.”
Alwyn has had a busy 2022, with roles in Claire Denis‘ “Stars At Noon” and Lena Dunham‘s “Catherine Called Birdy.” Other recent credits include Joanna Hogg‘s “The Souvenir: Part II,” Joel Edgerton‘s “Boy Erased,” and Kasi Lemmons‘ “Harriet.”
“Poor Things” doesn’t even have an official release date yet, but with “And,” there’s the potential for not one but two new Yorgos Lanthimos movies next year. What’s not to love about that? Stay tuned for further news about “And” as it approaches production.
