Andy Serkis has a strange relationship with the “Star Wars” franchise. Originally, he was brought on to play the voice and motion capture for the new big-bad of the film franchise, Snoke. However, that character was (controversially) killed in the second film of the sequel trilogy. But he was given new life as a completely new character in the recent “Star Wars” series, “Andor.” There, he became a fan-favorite, but his character was only meant to be part of a few episodes of the show. At least, for now. The actor is staying mum about the future of his character as “Andor” moves into Season 2.

Speaking to EW, Andy Serkis was asked about the future of his “Andor” character, Kino. If you watched the show, you know Kino served as a major part of a short run of episodes in a prison. When we left that prison, the fate of Kino was not known, leaving open the option of seeing more of him in the future. But Serkis isn’t spilling the beans about Season 2, just yet.
“All that we do know is that he survives. I mean, we don’t see him die. We see him left for a further life of the character,” said Serkis. “But prior to that, there were no discussions at all about [what] might happen afterwards. I was just excited enough about the arc that I had to play, which was a really beautifully crafted illustration of a man who has a belief system that gets broken that then has nothing to believe in, that then gets kind of reignited by someone who inspires him to find himself again, and then self-sacrifices.”
Clearly, Season 2 of “Andor” is going to be an expansive set of episodes. From what we know, the season is said to cover several years of time, with groups of episodes comprising mini-stories with time jumps between the batches. Needless to say, if “Andor” mastermind, Tony Gilroy, wants to find a way to bring back Kino, he can probably think of something.
Unfortunately, it’s unclear exactly when we might see Season 2 of “Andor.” The dual SAG and WGA strikes have really affected the production of everything, including the “Star Wars” series. So, it might be quite a while before we see more “Andor” and learn whether or not Serkis is bound to make another “Star Wars” comeback.
