Yes, it’s a full year after “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” was released. And yes, we should move on from the film, considering the vitriol it has generated on social media in the months following the debut. But here we are, 12 months later, with actors still talking about the film’s more shocking elements.
In a new interview with Games Radar, Andy Serkis, who played the mysterious (and very much dead) Snoke in both ‘The Force Awakens’ and ‘The Last Jedi,’ talked about playing the villain and his shock to find out the grisly end the character would experience.
“It was a bit of a shock but I could see exactly why they were going that route, and I think it was a huge surprise in the middle of the film,” said Serkis. “But I really loved the scene where Rey plays with Snoke. That scene was a fantastic. I just wish he’d survived, but who knows?”
It’s that little line at the end, “who knows?” that is sure to send ‘Star Wars’ fans to speculate about how J.J. Abrams can fix Snoke’s death in the upcoming ‘Episode IX,’ considering many believe that Abrams will retcon many of the things that happened in Rian Johnson’s controversial ‘Last Jedi.’
Even though many of the folks that constantly crap on ‘The Last Jedi’ do so with fan arguments about plot points they wish had gone differently, the gripes about Snoke’s demise are fairly universal, even among those that like the film. The character was only briefly seen in ‘The Force Awakens,’ and before any sort of substantial origin was given to Snoke, he was unceremoniously killed in ‘Last Jedi.’ It would have been nice to see a little more of the character, especially considering how many fan theories were floating around about Snoke’s true nature.
We’ll see if Abrams has anymore Snoke plans when ‘Episode IX’ is released on December 20, 2019.
