A parent’s biggest nightmare has to be the idea that a stranger could kidnap their child. Most of the time, when you imagine such a scenario, it’s some weirdo in an unmarked van that preys on children, offering candy and whatnot. But in the case of the film “Angel of Mine,” the predator in question is a mentally ill woman going through an extreme case of PTSD.
As seen in the trailer, the person that is threatening to kidnap a little girl isn’t some creepy guy in a van, but instead, a grieving mother that is utterly convinced that her neighbor’s daughter is, in fact, her own. “Angel of Mine” finds this mentally ill woman, Lizzie, completely sure that a little girl that is the friend of her son is somehow her young daughter that was killed years ago in a hospital fire. Of course, Lizzie isn’t to be trusted because she stopped taking her medications and is clearly not 100%. But you never know, right?
The film stars Noomi Rapace alongside Yvonne Strahovski, Luke Evans, and Richard Roxburgh. Director Kim Farrant helms the project, which is written by Luke Davies and David Regal. Farrant’s previous film work included “Strangerland,” which starred Nicole Kidman, Joseph Fiennes, and Hugo Weaving. That film was nominated for a Grand Jury Prize at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival.
“Angel of Mine” arrives in theaters and On Demand on August 30.
Here’s the synopsis:
