Angelina Jolie Abandons ‘Wanted’ Sequel For New Alfonso Cuarón Sci-Fi Thriller, ‘Gravity’

Angelina Jolie has reportedly abandoned a return to a “Wanted” sequel, instead opting to star in a new Alfonso Cuarón sci-fi thriller called, “Gravity.”

The project will see Jolie dominate the screen as the sole surviving human member of a space mission, desperately trying to return home to Earth and her daughter. It sounds similar to the tone of Sam Rockwell and “Moon” but it’s probably safe to assume that Cuarón and his son Jonás, who wrote the script together, have put their own unique spin on the genre tale as Alfonso did with his post-apocalyptic affair, “Children Of Men.”

Cuarón also had his children’s film”A Boy And His Shoe” in the works but after being pushed from a 2009 shoot and release, it remains to be seen whether that project will return. Jolie, meanwhile, has been developing Patricia Cornwell’s novels about medical-examiner Kay Scarpetta, with Kerry Williamson now brought on to write an origins story. Interestingly, Jolie and Cuaron were at one stage said to be teaming for “The Tourist” before Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck returned to the pic– she must have liked the meetings she had with Cuarón when he was briefly involved.

“Gravity” is being developed by Legendary Pictures in collaboration with Warner Bros., who picked it up after Universal put in the turnaround, presumably turned off by it’s “artistic challenge.” David Heyman, who is famous for obtaining the film rights to the ‘Harry Potter’ books, is also producing.
