Over the past decade, Angelina Jolie has consistently alternated between starring in films and directing films. And with four narrative features and a documentary under her belt, it appears that Jolie’s directorial career isn’t slowing down anytime soon. Now, she has signed on for her next directing gig, an upcoming biopic titled “Unreasonable Behaviour.”
According to Deadline, Jolie has signed on to direct “Unreasonable Behavior,” a biopic about famous British war photographer, Don McCullin. The film is based on the photographer’s autobiography of the same name and tells the story of how he grew up in poverty-stricken, wartime London and would end up traveling the world and photographing some of the worst warzones. In addition to Jolie’s involvement, Tom Hardy and his Hardy Son & Baker production company is on board to produce the feature, with screenwriter Gregory Burke aboard to pen the script.
“I am humbled to have a chance to bring Don McCullin’s life to film,” said Jolie. “I was drawn to his unique combination of fearlessness and humanity – his absolute commitment to witnessing the truth of war, and his empathy and respect for those who suffer its consequences. We hope to make a film that is as uncompromising as Don’s photography, about the extraordinary people and events he witnessed, and the rise and fall of a unique era in journalism.”
McCullin added, “Having viewed Angelina’s last film on Cambodia (and having spent so much time during the war there) I was very impressed at how she made such a powerful and accurate representation of the place at that time. I feel as if I am in safe, capable and professional hands with her.”
As mentioned, Jolie has directed a number of films already. Her first film is the documentary, “A Place in Time,” which was released in 2007. From there, she directed narrative features, “In the Land of Blood and Honey,” “Unbroken,” “By the Sea,” and most recently, “First They Killed My Father.” Of those films, the best-received film is likely “Unbroken,” which found itself nominated for three Oscars.
It’s unclear when production will begin on “Unreasonable Behaviour.”
