After an audacious, thrilling performance in David Michod’s “Animal Kingdom,” actor Ben Mendelsohn has been added the cast of Joel Schumacher ‘s latest film “Trespass” with Nicholas Cage and Nicole Kidman.
Cage was a question mark, apparently going A.W.O.L in the Bahamas after promoting “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” leaving producers scrambling to find a new lead as the start date loomed — and that was after he wanted to switch to playing the lead villain. However, Cage returned, taking his originally slotted role as the protagonist. The cast is rounded out by Dash Mihok, Liana Liberato, Cam Gigandet and Jordana Spiro.
The film centers on the story of a husband and wife, played by Cage and Kidman, taken hostage by four brutal perpetrators seeking easy cash with chaos further ensuing as betrayal and deception, presumably within the camp of criminals, are uncovered. Considering his age relative to other supporting cast members, Mendelsohn may very well be playing the leader of the criminals, a role which promises to make for compelling viewing opposite the enigmatic Cage.
Nu Image and Millennium Films will be producing, marking their fourth teaming with Cage, the latest being his recently wrapped 3D actioner “Drive Angry.” Winkler Films are also involved with the production, which begins this week in Louisiana with a nine week shoot.
