Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess are set to lead Lone Scherfig’s follow up to “An Education,” an adaptation of David Nicholls’ romance novel, “One Day.”
Both actors are still only in talks but look set to lead the Focus Features rom-com which will span twenty years and center on a couple, Dexter and Emma, for only one day every year from their 1988 graduation. Nicholls is also the author of “Starter For Ten” which saw a 2006 adaptation by Tom Vaughan starring James McAvoy.
One notable review of “One Day” on Amazon comes from “An Education” scribe Nick Hornby, who describes it as a “big, absorbing, smart, fantastically readable” and “brilliant on the details of the last couple of decades of British cultural and political life.” Could this latest project see Scherfig reunite with Hornby? No mention has yet been made of who will be adapting the novel for the screen.
Scherfig’s work on “An Education” generated some early buzz for a directing nomination last year, however, such momentum unfortunately dwindled out by year’s end. Compliments were still bestowed on her film though with Oscar nominations for Best Picture and Best Actress for lead Carey Mulligan.
“One Day” is due to begin shooting this summer in London. And after that? Scherfig previously noted a plan to follow Kathryn Bigelow’s footsteps into action with a gangster flick that “looks like it may happen.” Someone, please, make that come true.
