If there’s one genre that Steven Soderbergh still needs to tackle in his thirty-plus-year career, it’s horror. But that’s all about to change with “Presence,” the unflagging filmmaker’s latest feature. Fresh off a new screening at TIFF, Soderbergh’s latest hits theaters early next year (and with any luck, his latest spy thriller “Black Bag,” starring Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender, won’t be too far behind).
On paper, “Presence” has a lot of things going for it: Soderbergh at the helm, David Koepp penning the screenplay, and an ensemble cast featuring Lucy Liu, Julia Fox, and more. Here’s an official synopsis for the film, courtesy of NEON:
A family moves into a suburban home and becomes convinced they’re not alone.
“Presence” also stars Chris Sullivan, Callina Laing, Eddy Maday, and West Mulholland.
Soderbergh’s latest had its world premiere at Sundance back in January, where it received high marks from critics (read The Playlist’s review here). “Presence” hits select theaters on January 17 before opening everyone on January 25. Watch a teaser for the film below.
