'Anora' Trailer: Sean Baker's Palme d'Or-winning Film Arrives In October

It was a bit of a shock when the Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes went to Sean Baker for his new film “Anora.” It’s not shocking that the film was a hit with critics, as Baker has always made movies that do well at festivals. However, it still surprised many. Could this be the year that Baker finally gets his trophies?

As seen in the trailer, “Anora” tells the story of a dancer who quickly falls in love with one of her clients. After the two go off and elope, there’s a ton of drama when Anora discovers that her new husband, Vanya, might have earned his wealth in less desirable ways. That puts Anora in the crosshairs of a Russian family that doesn’t want her around.

The film stars Mikey Madison, Mark Eydelshteyn, Yuri Borisov, Karren Karagulian, and Vache Tovmasyan. As mentioned, the film is written and directed by Baker. He’s probably best known for films such as “Tangerine” and “The Florida Project.” His most recent film is the drama, “Red Rocket.”

We saw the film at this year’s Cannes, and in our review, we said, “For all the questions you’ll have over Ani’s choices (girl, get a lawyer), it’s the actors alongside Madison who carry ‘Anora’ across the finish line. It’s a transformative moment for the ‘Better Things’ star, who portrays Ani with an unflinching charisma. On the other hand, the fresh-faced Eydelshteyn appears to be the second coming of Timothée Chalamet.”

“Anora” is set to arrive in theaters on October 18. You can watch the trailer below.
