Ansel Elgort Confirms Script Is Written For ‘Baby Driver 2’: “I Think It’s Going To Happen”

Edgar Wright has created some of the most beloved comedies of the last couple of decades, but none of them went on to become box office powerhouses. In fact, as much as people absolutely love “Shaun of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz,” for example, those films only made $30 million and $81 million worldwide, respectively. Not exactly moneymaking behemoths. However, Wright’s most recent film, “Baby Driver,” not only did well with critics (as the filmmaker’s films normally do) but also was a surprise box office hit, earning $226 million worldwide. This has led to many wondering if or when we’ll see a sequel.

Well, according to a new MTVNews interview with “Baby Driver” star Ansel Elgort, the “if” question isn’t really valid, as the film will likely happen. However, the “when” is still up in the air. Specifically, the actor was asked if Wright had completed a script for “Baby Driver 2” and shown it to him.

“Yes. He has shared it with me,” Elgort replied with a grin.

When asked about a timetable for the film, considering that Wright is already working on his latest film “Last Night in Soho,” the actor simply said, “I don’t know.”

All that being said, a sequel is likely in the cards, as Elgort said, “Yes, I think it’s going to happen. I think there will be a ‘Baby Driver 2’. It has a different title, actually. You’re gonna have to have to ask Edgar that, though.”

Wright has previously spoken about the idea of a “Baby Driver” sequel but was also cagey with the details. However, it’s clear that the idea exists and that he’s interested in devoting time to what would be his first-ever sequel. It’s just a matter of when it might happen.

As the filmmaker finishes “Last Night in Soho” over the next year, we’ll hopefully learn more information about what his plans are moving forward. Until then, “Baby Driver 2” (or whatever it will be called) is nothing more than a tease.
