Antonio Campos Says 'The Staircase' HBO Max Adaptation Starring Harrison Ford Will Be His Next Project

Back in the fall, it was reported that Antonio Campos was maybe going to develop a limited series based on “The Staircase” docuseries, starring none other than Harrison Ford. Of course, this was in November 2019, before the world started to burn and our lives were forever altered by a global pandemic and incompetent leadership. So, most of us probably forgot that this was a project that was in discussions. Well, thankfully, Campos not only confirmed that this is happening but that HBO Max is ready to distribute the series when it is finished.

In an interview with Rian Johnson for Interview Magazine, Campos was asked what he’s working on next. And apparently, he has one hell of a limited series up his sleeve.

“I’ve been developing a limited series that’s based on ‘The Staircase,’” said Campos. “I have it set up at HBO Max, and Harrison Ford is attached.”

For those unfamiliar with “The Staircase,” the docuseries that debuted on Netflix back in 2018 (as an update to the 2004 docuseries of the same name) tells the story of Michael Petersen, a novelist that finds himself accused of murder after his wife is found dead at the foot of the stairs in their home. However, what starts as your typical true-crime story takes all sorts of twists and turns, as more of Petersen’s secrets are revealed, which changes how he is viewed forever.

Campos is a great filmmaker that is perfectly suited for this sort of murder-mystery story. With its incredible cast of characters and Harrison Ford suiting up as the leading man, this could be one of the more exciting projects to appear on HBO Max in some time.

Hopefully, the series arrives sooner than later because we’re all eager to see what Ford can do with his first major TV work alongside an accomplished filmmaker like Campos. You can watch the trailer for the Netflix docuseries below:
