A couple of release date shifts for you, so get your calendars.
Originally scheduled to be released in April, pushed to January 2012, moved back up to this August and now pushed one more time, the low-budget “Apollo 18” is the movie no one wants or knows what to do with. Anyway, The Weinstein Company have moved the film from August 26th — where it was slated to open against another film from TWC, the Paul Rudd comedy “Our Idiot Brother” — to September 2nd. The Labor Day weekend will now find the found-footage space movie running up against the Sam Worthington thriller “The Debt” and the don’t-go-in-the-water flick “Shark Night 3D,” both of which will probably do more business than the Timur Bekmambetov-produced “Apollo 18.”
Meanwhile, hot on the heels of “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” planting a flag on December 14, 2012, Fox has shifted their highly anticipated adaptation of “Life of Pi.” Starring Tobey Maguire, Suraj Sharma, Gerard Depardieu, Irrfan Khan, Adil Hussain and Tabu, the film based on the Yann Martel best-seller tells the story of the son of an Indian zookeeper named Pi who is shipwrecked in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and finds himself stuck on a lifeboat with a 450-pound Bengal tiger. Ang Lee will direct the 3D film which will now arrive on December 21, 2012. The other films currently slated on that date are Phillip Noyce‘s thriller “Hunter Killer” and the Judd Apatow “Knocked Up” spinoff, but we expect both of those to move. [BoxOfficeMojo]
