Will Luc & Jean-Pierre Dardennes win their third Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival later this month? The Belgian filmmaking duo has already won the fest’s top award twice, for “Rosetta” in 1999 and “L’Enfant” in 2005. But no director has ever won it three times, and a victory for the Dardennes’ latest, “The Young Mother’s Home,” would thus cement the brothers’ already sterling Cannes reputation with unprecedented status.
Their first film since 2023’s ‘Tori And Lokita,” “The Young Mother’s Home” follows the day-to-day lives of five mothers at a local centre.
Here’s a brief synopsis for “The Young Mother’s Home”:
Five young mothers; Jessica, Perla, Julie, Naïma, and Ariane and their children are housed in a centre for young mothers
“The Young Mother’s Home” stars Lucie Laruelle, Babette Verbeek, Elsa Housen, Janaïna Halloy Fokan, Samia Hilmi, and Jef Jacobs. Günter Duret, Christielle Cornil, India Hair, and Joely Mbundu round out the main cast.
The Dardennes both write and direct “The Young Mother’s Home,” and also produce the film with Delphine Tomson. Their latest is their eleventh feature to have its world premiere at Cannes, and their tenth in competition.
Stay tuned for an official world premiere date for “The Young Mother’s Home” at Cannes later this month. In the meantime, take a look at the film’s first trailer below.
