Apparition Picks Up ‘The Runaways,’ Sets March 19th Release Date

New boys in town Apparition have acquired the the U.S. rights to Floria Sigismondi’s “The Runaways,” promptly setting the film for a March 19th release, two months after its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.

“The Runaways” tells the story of the ’70s all-girl-group of the same name and reportedly centers on the relationship between guitarist-vocalist Joan Jett, played by Kristen Stewart, and lead vocalist Cherie Currie, played by Dakota Fanning, through the band’s meteoric rise.

“Floria has crafted a beautiful story of Joan and Cherie’s tumultuous relationship on and off stage, as well as a kick ass rock ‘n’ roll journey,” Apparition’s Bob Berney noted.

“‘The Runaways’ was made with the same independent attitude that defined the group,” producer Bill Pohlad and Art Linson add. “Kristen and Dakota really became the characters, right down to singing the vocals. The authenticity of the film reflects Joan Jett’s participation in the project. Her presence on the set was a great influence on the actors.”

Also starring in the film are Michael Shannon as infamous manager Kim Fowley, Scout Taylor-Compton as guitarist Lita Ford, Stella Maeve as drummer Sandy West and Alia Shawkat and Tatum O’Neal in confirmed roles.

The film joins Terrence Malick’s highly anticipated and equally mysterious “The Tree Of Life” on Apparition books for 2010 though Malick’s film has still yet to find a replacement for its original Christmas opening.
