Got a Tip?

Apple Reportedly Cancels Plans To Develop Donald Trump Biopic

It’s a long tradition in Hollywood to make historical biopics about United States Presidents. Good or bad, eventually a biopic will emerge. So, that begs the question—when will we see Donald Trump get the biopic treatment? Well, it appears the project that was seemingly going to be one of the first has recently been aborted.

According to The Ankler, Apple has stopped development on a Donald Trump biopic, based on the recent book, “Confidence Man” by author Maggie Haberman. The book, and presumably the film, attempts to break down Trump’s recent Presidential reign through the lens of his past in Queens and his career in real estate development. The book was released just last month and has already become a huge hit, selling more than 100,000 copies in its first month.

While there’s no exact reason given for why Apple is killing off the project after the studio optioned the book a while ago, the report claims that Hollywood has become more and more averse to making films about controversial political figures. And you have to assume that any biopic about Donald Trump is going to be instantly polarizing and the discussion will divide audiences based on political affiliation, as everything with the former President does. Also, you have to wonder who would actually sign up to portray Trump in a sincere biopic and not make it an ‘SNL’ skit?

Obviously, this doesn’t mean that all future Donald Trump biopics are doomed to fail. There is definitely a chance that we could see one in the future. But with Trump announcing last night that he officially plans on running for President again in 2024, the story isn’t even close to done. So, perhaps that’s another reason why we’ll probably be waiting a bit longer before we get a Trump-inspired biopic from a Hollywood studio. We still need to see how the real story will play out. Plus, we need to know if it’s going to end in horror or as a comedy.
