OK, it’s not indie, hip or even remotely cool (or possibly even good?), but the soundtrack to the cheesy looking “August Rush” feel-good, music film comes out November 6 (“feeel the music” is one of the film’s tags). You won’t find Sufjan on it (so Stereogum won’t report it) and you won’t find Deerhunter on it (so neither will Pitchfork), but the disc does feature songs by Kaki King, who recently contributed some instrumental score music (with Michael Brooks) to Sean Penn’s “Into The Wild,” John Legend, and lots of songs sung by closeted actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers (you can hear one his songs at the movie’s myspace page).

Trailer: “August Rush”
Speaking of “Into the Wild,” a deluxe edition of the album has been released on ITunes. It features 2 new Eddie Vedder tracks, “No More” and “Photographs,” plus 2 live tracks. In a recent Reuters interview Sean Penn listed his “Into The Wild” temp tracks he used before he tapped Vedder to write the songs. “I had model tracks throughout. There was Neil Young’s ‘Hey Hey, My My,’ Cat Stevens’ ‘Miles From Nowhere,’ Joe Henry’s ‘King’s Highway’ and Philip Glass’ ‘Cloudscape.’ That was less in a transitional state than it was in a visual one. There was Lynyrd Skynyrd’s ‘Simple Man” too.” Sounds like that might’ve been better than the PJ singers yodelling.
