Listen, we know reporting on when the release date for a film is going to be announced is pretty lame, but when it’s for one of the most game-changing, box-office-pillaging films of all time, you have to cut us a bit of slack.
At the tail end of a pretty dry and boring Associated Press article where James Cameron, again, waxes philosophic on the wondrous age of 3-D we live in, is an interesting tidbit that states, “the release date will be announced in a few months.” Our guess is that the announcement will not so coincidentally be made around the same time the specs for the extras-laden BluRay/DVD release scheduled for this fall is unveiled.
Cameron adds that the film will take about three years to make, guaranteeing Sam Worthington a steady paycheck. So yeah, don’t expect “Avatar 2” until 2014-15 at the earliest by which time Cameron might have figured out a way for the audience to get out of their seats and step into the screen to interact with the characters. Movie tickets will also cost $75. We’re weeping already.
