'Avengers: Infinity War' Super Bowl Spot: It's A Superhero Showdown

For football fans, the Super Bowl Sunday is the biggest night in sports. But for film fans, the big game means just one thing: brand new movie trailers. Tradition goes that Marvel Studios releases an ad for their upcoming May releases during the Super Bowl and that tradition held up again this year for “Avengers: Infinity War.”

The 100 Most Anticipated Films of 2018

The first footage of the blockbuster was exclusively shown at the D23 Expo and was met with an extremely strong and positive reaction. There were reports of people “literally on their feet and jumping as the footage played” and saying it “could be one of the most epic blockbusters ever created.” Judging from the epic synopsis, it’s hard not to agree:

As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.

‘Infinity War’ is the whopping nineteenth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and features arguably one of the biggest cast of stars of all time. All the familiar faces of the various Marvel franchises will make an appearance like Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Chris Pratt, Scarlett Johansson, Don Cheadle, Gwyneth Paltrow, Zoe Saldana, Benedict Cumberbatch, Samuel L. Jackson, Dave Bautista, Colbie Smulders, Josh Brolin, Bradley Cooper, Chadwick Boseman, Elizabeth Olsen, and Paul Rudd just to name a few.

Both ‘Infinity War’ and its untitled 2019 sequel will be directed by Anthony and Joe Russo (the brothers behind “Captain America: Civil War”) and written by frequent MCU screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

“Avengers: Infinity War” opens on May 4th.
