Got a Tip?

Awful New ‘Showgirls: Exposed’ Trailer Debuts, Director Marc Vorlander Responds To His Critics

Last fall, the NSFW and WTF trailer for “Showgirls: Exposed” confounded and amused film fans worldwide with its cheap-looking cinematography, bad acting and general D-grade production values.

Not be deterred, director Marc Vorlander has unleashed a new, four minute spot for the film which takes everything that was terrible about the first trailer and makes it worse. Giving up on trying to explain the plot, the film is presented as a Music Photo Play (no, we don’t know what that means either) and uses some cheesy synth music to display a few minutes of women gyrating, some dudes with guns, a meteor shower (!?) and a lot of terribly-photographed stuff. There is also a particularly mystifying quote that comes up no screen reading, “Death Means Awakening.” Whatever. But before you get to all that, Vorlander opens with a minute long credit sequence boasting the involvement of the people marginally associated with such illustrious projects as “Charmed,” SeaQuest” and “Commando.” And in case you care about these things, the film also has a special appearance by German Playboy model Mia Gray.

If you have any doubts about whether or not this is some elaborate put-on, Vorlander himself took to the comment section of Twitch’s post about the trailer, vigorously defending the poor production as being intentional:

The uneven look of the footage is intention. All footage was shot between July 2009 and April 2010 with the same type of camera, a Canon G1. Let’s not forget that Showgirls is known as “one of the worst movies ever”…, if you want to continue this cult legend, you wouldn’t be smart to ignore the trashy aspects of this cult. The sometimes poor picture quality is intention, if you take closer look, you will detect some known effect filters that were used to create that style intentionally. Some effects I created by filming with an open aperture… Yes my work is crazy and not even remotely mainstream of any kind…, but who cares? I don’t! I’m doing this because this is my own original style, I never thought about to satisfy any expectations of someone.

The trailer is below and needless to say to its NSFW. No word on if/when this will hit theaters (it barely seems eligible for a straight-to-DVD release) but we could hardly sit through this preview; we can’t imagine enduring 90 minutes of this.

The embed doesn’t seem to be working so you’ll have to click above to watch it over at Twitch.
