'Axel Foley': Original 'Beverly Hills Cop' Cast Reuniting For Netflix Sequel

After almost 30 years, Netflix is getting the “Beverly Hills Cop” gang back together for an all-new sequel. And Deadline reports that the original cast are all coming back to reprise the roles they had in the series’ first trilogy of films.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley‘ sees Judge Reinhold and John Ashton return as Detective Billy Rosewood and Sgt. Taggard, sidekicks to Eddie Murphy‘s Axel Foley.  Paul Reiser and Bronson Pinchot also return for the upcoming film. Reiser played Detroit Cop Jeffrey Friedman in the first two film, while Pincho was an art gallery salesman.  

Mark Molloy directs “Axel Foley” with a script penned by Will BeallJerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman produce under their Jerry Bruckheimer Films banner along with Murphy. Executive producers include Charisse Hewitt-Webster, Ray Angelic, and Melissa Reid.

“Axel Foley” is currently shooting in California. It’s Murphy’s second movie with Netflix after “Dolemite Is My Name,” in which he portrayed Blaxploitation star Rudy Ray Moore. “Dolemite” went on to score two Golden Globe nominations for Best Picture – Musical/Comedy and Best Actor – Musical/Comedy for Murphy.

So, will Netflix recapture the “Beverly Hills Cop” magic with “Axel Foley”? Only time will tell.
