Aziz Ansari was sitting on top of the world in 2017 and into early-2018. After a scene-stealing role in “Parks and Rec,” the comedian launched an award-winning series on Netflix titled “Master of None.” This was compounded by the sold-out stand-up comedy shows that he was performing throughout the world. Needless to say, Ansari was at the top of his game.

However, that all changed when the comedian found himself at the center of a #MeToo controversy. From then on, after an apology by the comedian, Ansari left the public eye, for the most part. He continued to do his stand-up comedy but wasn’t found anywhere in films or TV series. Now, he is ready to make his comeback with a new stand-up comedy special, hitting Netflix in July, directed by none other than Spike Jonze.
Titled “Right Now,” the special sees the comedian going back to his stand-up roots. While the teaser doesn’t give you anything really to go off on, other than presenting an affair that seems a bit more somber than most specials, there’s definitely a Spike Jonze vibe throughout the footage seen.

Will “Right Now” be enough to earn back the trust of the audience that “canceled” Ansari last year? That remains to be seen. However, with Jonze attached to direct and Netflix giving him a massive platform, the comedian is ready to step into the limelight once again.
“Aziz Ansari: Right Now” arrives on Netflix on July 9.
