Dutch actress/director Halina Reijn made a big splash for her English-language feature debut last year with A24’s anti-slasher “Bodies Bodies Bodies.” Not everyone loved the movie (this writer didn’t), but once A24 becomes interested in an artist, loads of moviegoers also become interested. So, what’s next for Reijn? It’s an erotic thriller for A24 called “Babygirl,” about a career woman in her 40s who gets sexually involved with a 21-year-old intern.

That sounds delightfully scandalous, but who’s attached to star in the film? None other than Nicole Kidman; so, if “Babygirl” didn’t sound enticing before, it probably does now. Add “Babygirl” to Kidman’s other upcoming projects, such as Mimi Cave’s “Holland, Michigan” and “Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom.”
Joining Kidman in the cast are Harris Dickinson (who is terrific in “A Murder at the End of the World”), Jean Reno, Antonio Banderas, and Sophie Wilde. The latter of which was a breakout star in the A24 hit horror film, “Talk to Me.” Clearly, the studio wants to keep her around. And let’s not forget that both Reno and Banderas are quality actors with numerous outstanding performances under their belts.
It’s unclear when we might see “Babygirl” reach theaters. However, with the success of “Bodies, Bodies, Bodies” and this incredible cast, all eyes are going to be on Halina Reijn’s new project.
