As a young person, there are few things as scary as meeting your partner’s parents for the first time. And as seen in the upcoming film, “Babyteeth,” there’s a good reason why this is a situation full of stress.
IFC Films is set to release the highly-anticipated film “Babyteeth” on VOD this week, and in honor of the film’s impending arrival, we’re thrilled to give our readers an exclusive look at a clip from the film. As mentioned above, the clip showcases the first time Moses meets the parents of his much-younger, seriously-ill girlfriend, Milla. And it, uh, doesn’t go so well.
“Babyteeth” tells the story of a young girl that falls in love with a drug dealer, all while dealing with a terrible illness. This, as you might imagine, is like the worst-case scenario for her parents, but also is a situation that allows their young daughter the chance to fully experience life and live like there’s nothing to lose.
“Babyteeth” stars Eliza Scanlen, Toby Wallace, Emily Barclay, Eugene Gilfedde, Essie Davis, and Ben Mendelsohn. The film is directed by Shannon Murphy, who previously worked on Season 3 of “Killing Eve.”

Murphy’s film was a standout at last year’s Venice Film Festival, and in our review from the event, we described “Babyteeth” as “an imperfect but devastating story about doing our best with the cards we are dealt.”
“Babyteeth” arrives on VOD on June 19. You can watch the exclusive clip below.
Here’s the synopsis:
When seriously ill teenager Milla falls madly in love with smalltime drug dealer Moses, it’s her parents’ worst nightmare. But as Milla’s first brush with love brings her a new lust for life, things get messy and traditional morals go out the window. Milla soon shows everyone in her orbit – her parents, Moses, a sensitive music teacher, a budding child violinist, and a disarmingly honest, pregnant neighbour – how to live like you have nothing to lose. What might have been a disaster for the Finlay family instead leads to letting go and finding grace in the glorious chaos of life. Babyteeth joyously explores how good it is not to be dead yet and how far we will go for love.
