‘Spinal Tap II: The End Continues’ Teaser Trailer: Rob Reiner’s Sequel To English Metal Band Mockumentary Hits Theaters On September 12

This is Spinal Tap! It has been 40 years since the mockumentary “This Is Spinal Tap” graced screens and a follow-up installment is going to be released later this year as an announcement teaser trailer reveals the comedic pic, “Spinal Tap II: The End Continues” is coming to theaters on September 12 thanks to Bleecker Street and Castle Rock Entertainment.

In the sequel, we’ll see the fictional English heavy metal band reunite after a 15-year hiatus to play a final rip-roaring concert for their dedicated fans.

Rob Reiner (“When Harry Met Sally”) returns to direct with returning cast members Christopher Guest (“The Princess Bride”), Michael McKean (“Better Call Saul”), and Harry Shearer (“The Simpsons”) back playing their parody rockstar characters (likely a direct nod to likes of English metal bands such as Judas Priest and Iron Maiden) from the original film released back in 1984.

“So happy to be working with the folks at Bleecker Street who are passionate about keeping Tap’s legacy alive and happy to give Marty DiBergi another shot at relevancy,” Reiner said in a statement announcing the sequel’s release date.

A brief synopsis via Bleecker reads:

Conceived by Guest, McKean, Reiner, and Shearer, “Spinal Tap II” follows England’s loudest and most punctual band, as they reunite after a 15-year hiatus for one final concert.

Comedy nerds will be aware that the 1978 TV film “All You Need Is Cash” was the precursor to “This Is Spinal Tap,” as the Eric Idle and Lorne Michaels-produced mockumentary focused on The Rutles, a direct parody of The Beatles with the exact satirical sensibilities you’d expect from The Monty Python team.

Will they be able to match the improvised wit and excellent comedic timing of the original? We’re certainly excited to see what they’ve put together here and you can watch that teaser trailer below.
