Cliff Martinez To Score Nicholas Jarecki’s ‘Arbitrage’
After successfully collaborating for the Hugh Grant/Nicholas Hoult-led drama “About A Boy,” singer-songwriter Damon Gough — better known by his stage name, Badly Drawn Boy — has re-teamed with helmer Paul Weitz for his upcoming adaptation of Nick Flynn‘s memoirs “Another Bullshit Night In Suck City.”
The alternative, folk-rock musician has reportedly already completed the score for the Focus Features picture, which stars Paul Dano as author Flynn, as he is reunited with his estranged father (played by Robert De Niro), an alcoholic resident of a homeless shelter where Flynn was a social worker in the late ’80’s. Shot in the summer of this year, the untitled film also features Julianne Moore, Olivia Thirlby, Lili Taylor and Dale Dickey. No word on a release just yet but it does seem like a Sundance-type film, right?
Meanwhile, Cliff Martinez, who earned our praises this year with his work on “Drive” and “Contagion,” will team with Nicholas Jarecki on his financial-world drama “Arbitrage,” which is set to star Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon, Brit Marling and possibly rapper Drake with Tim Roth, Nate Parker and Laetitia Casta also appearing to have joined the cast since we last checked in with the film.
The film was originally set to star Al Pacino and Eva Green, but both have since left with Gere and presumably Marling taking on their respective roles for the story of “a hedge-fund magnate who struggles to complete the sale of his trading business to a big bank before the level of fraud is exposed. Aside from a shady business, the hedge fund guy juggles a wife and an art dealer mistress, as well as rivals who want to bring him down.”
Lensing for the pic took place earlier this year with Jarecki’s experiences as a documentarian (“The Outsider“) hopefully bringing a different edge to the now over-exposed financial world. [Film Music Reporter]
