The fallout from the recent report from the Atlantic involving director Bryan Singer’s most recent sexual assault allegations keeps coming. After GLAAD decided to remove “Bohemian Rhapsody” from its awards nominations entirely, it appears that the BAFTA Awards are doing something a bit more…personal.
For those not aware, “Bohemian Rhapsody” was nominated for a total of seven BAFTAs, including Outstanding British Film, for which Bryan Singer is listed as one of the nominated parties. However, the awards show is going the extra step to ensure that no matter what, Singer’s name won’t be attached to the award.
“In light of recent very serious allegations, BAFTA has informed Bryan Singer that his nomination for ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ has been suspended, effective immediately,” BAFTA said in a statement (via THR).

“BAFTA considers the alleged behaviour completely unacceptable and incompatible with its values,” the statement continues. “This has led to Mr. Singer’s suspended nomination. BAFTA notes Mr. Singer’s denial of the allegations. The suspension of his nomination will therefore remain in place until the outcome of the allegations has been resolved. BAFTA believes everyone has the right to a fulfilling career in a safe, professional working environment, and it will continue to collaborate with the film, games and television industries to achieve this.”
Upon hearing the news of Singer’s BAFTA snub, Fox released a statement saying, “We fully support BAFTA’s decision.” No love loss there, it would seem.
The other awards for which “Bohemian Rhapsody” is nominated include Best Film (given to the producers), Best Actor, as well as nods in the cinematography, editing, makeup and hair, and sound categories.
The BAFTA awards will be handed out on February 10.
